Another happy story to pass along… the mother of her adult son came in recently to share a beautiful story after getting a pair of metaban glasses. He was legally blind his whole life and had lived on the streets for 16+ years homeless and blind and partaking in the things of this world. He has finally made the decision to clean up his life and come home—- his parents reached out to us and we HELPED him—- we gave him Hope! He could cook on his own—- he could clean up his kitchen counters on his own—-he could get oriented in the city (identifying where he was)… it changed his life and he was “living” again! Glory to God for bringing him to us to share a new way of life!

Another patient this week, contracted histoplasmosis back in 1999 affecting both of his maculas (central straight ahead vision) and he has been suffering with significant vision loss that has affected his quality of life. Unable to work efficiently, travel, see to read books and computer screens.

“Histoplasmosis is a fungal infection that many people are exposed to without ever knowing it. In some individuals, it can leave tiny scars in the back of the eye. Most of the time these scars never cause problems, but occasionally they can trigger abnormal blood vessel growth near the center of vision, leading to distortion, blurry vision, or blind spots.

Risk factors:

*Living in or visiting endemic areas such as Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Ohio River Valley
*Previous exposure to bird or bat droppings
*Smoking appears to increase the risk of vision-threatening complications.
